Putting Your Ink Where Your Beliefs Are

I thought for three years on what to get before having this tattoo inked. I wanted something positive and life-affirming that represented my core beliefs.

This tattoo is a customized composite of two other tattoos the shop had in-stock.

The dolphins came from one stock tattoo. The Earth with the wind turbine over it was another; however the stock tattoo had a peace sign where the turbine is. I had the artist convert it to a turbine.
The work was done by Inktown Tattoo of Lombard, IL. ( )

The dolphins symbolize peace and biodiversity for me. The one soaring over Earth is named Zephyr. The one swimming below the Earth is named Poseidon.

The wind turbine over the Earth symbolizes renewable energy cleaning and healing the planet, and bringing technology and nature into a sustainable harmony.

I got the tatt in 2010.

"Do the Math" with Bill McKibben, Nov. 28th in Chicago.

Dear Daniel,

The math is terrifying: Dirty energy companies can burn no more than 20% of the known remaining fossil fuels on the planet, or else our climate is in a heap of trouble.1

That means we need to be taking on the powerful oil, coal and gas companies directly — whose profit model depends on burning up our planet.

To keep our movement building and prepare for the next big fight, our friends Bill McKibben and 350 are going on the road with the "Do The Math" tour to lay out the terrifying new math of climate change, explain the odds we face and the difficult path we must walk in the coming years to create a livable future for our planet.

They'll be in Chicago on Nov. 28th. Can you make it?

"Do the Math" with Bill McKibben
Athenaeum Theater, 2936 N. Southport Ave, Chicago, IL
Nov. 28th at 7 PM, doors open at 6
Tickets are $10

"Do the Math" will be a unique and interactive experience, an opportunity to hear from Bill — possibly the clearest voice on climate change in our movement today — along with other special guests, about what we need to do in the fight going forward.

With each passing month, and each passing extreme drought, storm and flood, it's clear that this fight is urgent and that President Obama isn't doing enough. If he's re-elected, we don't know what else, if anything, he will do. If Romney is elected, we know he will do his best to set us on an apocalyptic path of burning our future to fatten the pockets of fossil fuel giants.

What we've learned from the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline fight is that when we band together we can take on the fossil fuel industry. Now it's time to take on the industry as a whole, and persuade our fellow residents of this planet that coal, oil and gas must be kept in the ground.

Thanks for standing with us in the fight against climate change,

Illinois Chapter Sierra Club: Rally for Starved Rock

A sand mine that will cut off water flow to some of the most beautiful and delicate hydrological formations in Illinois, which also happens to be one of the State's most beloved State parks, and where I was married.

Amazingly brilliant. Why didn't I think of that?
